BER Assessment
A BER Assessment (Building Energy Rating) is a rating on a scale of A to G of the energy efficiency of your home. All Gas now offers a BER assessment service. This assessment, carried out by our qualified BER Assessor, will give you an energy rating of your home and an Advisory Report, which will help identify areas that could improve your level of comfort along with reducing future heating bills and your carbon footprint. These measures will also improve your energy rating.
Can I get a grant for a BER Assessment?
A grant of €50 for an after works BER assessment is available under the SEAI Better Energy Homes Scheme (BES) but only in conjunction with a grant application of at least €400 for other works under the scheme. In fact an after works assessment is now required for all grants under the Better Energy Homes Scheme.
If I am applying for a SEAI grant can I get the BER Assessment carried out now?
The other works such as new boiler and heating controls upgrade must be carried out prior to the BER assessment.
I already have a BER Certificate. Will this do for the Better Energy Homes Grant Scheme?
No. The BER assessment for the Better Energy Homes Grant Scheme must be carried out after the grant works.
Is a BER Assessment Necessary in other cases?
From the 1st of January 2009 a BER certificate is compulsory for all homes being sold or rented. However, even if you are an owner occupier it is a very worthwhile investment in a BER assessment to identify how savings can be made on your energy consumption and costs as well as improving your level of comfort in your home.
